Koala Woman Says
There are a few north of Mittagong in Nattai National Park but this area was also burnt in in the summer of 2019 – 2020. There are a few in Canyonleigh and Belanglo State Forest. Further west there may be a few around Boorowa but there are no recent records.
The size of this electorate almost doubled with the 2024 redistribution to include part of Hume and extensive areas of National Parks and State Forests west of the Hume Freeway. We think there are about 200 Koalas in this area and another 100 east of Bowral. Further east, in the Upper Nepean State Conservation Area, recent surveys have identified a State-significant Koala population using better-quality habitat closer to watercourses.
