Holt

Koala Woman Says

There have been 62 records in Holt since 2020, which sounds great until you take a look and see that they are all in the 340-nectare Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, 10 km from any other bush. These Koalas must have been dumped there by the Victorian Government, knowing they were doomed. This is not how you manage Koala populations! A prime example of mismanagement occurred when 165 Koalas were transferred from French Island to Quail Island in 1930. After an outcry about starving Koalas, and attempts at censorship, the Government finally acquiesced and removed 1,308 Koalas from the island. There are a few Koalas left on Quail Island, with 16 records since 2000.
