G’day legends!
It’s me — Elvis, your fluffy mate and official ambassador for the Australian Koala Foundation — and today I’ve got some seriously exciting news to share.
Our very own Koala Army Ambassador, Ben Wenzel, is packing his racquets (and his Koala spirit) and heading all the way to New York this September for his very first adult Grand Slam at the US Open! And get this — it all kicks off during Save The Koala Month. Talk about perfect timing, right?
From Juniors to the Big League
You might remember that last year Ben was smashing it in the juniors — and even came home with the doubles title.This year, he’s stepping it up into the adult quad division. The dream he’s been chasing since day one is finally here, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him take this next step.
Training with a Legend
Before he hits the bright lights of New York, Ben will sharpen his game in College Park, Maryland. Even better, he’ll be teaming up in doubles with none other than Australian Paralympic gold medallist Heath Davidson.
The two of them have been sweating it out up in Cairns, training hard and chasing down some huge goals. Just last week, they even played an exhibition match at Clifton Beach Tennis Club — an epic three-setter that Ben walked away winning. Not bad practice before taking on the world.
Flying the Koala Flag
Now, here’s the best bit (at least in my humble Koala opinion). Ben’s not just playing for himself — he’s playing as a proud Koala Army Ambassador. That means while he’s out there smashing serves and chasing down points, he’ll also be spreading the word about Saving the Koala.
He’s promised to wave the Koala flag high and even recruit a few new Koala Army legends while he’s in the US. Big stage, big heart, big love for Koalas — that’s our Ben.
Cheering Him On
So, let’s do what we do best— cheer our mate Ben on from Cairns to New York. We know he’ll make us proud, and we’ll be with him every step of the way this Save The Koala Month.
